However, his aspirations to make UniCredit the "bank of Europe" are proving trickier to realise with the CEO setting a high bar for mergers and acquisitions in the euro zone's fractured capital markets, despite having what he describes as the biggest war chest among European lenders. UniCredit bought Greece's 9% stake in Alpha Bank (ACBr.AT) and struck a commercial partnership with the Athens-based lender, also acquiring most of its Romanian operations. The CEO works closely with a small M&A team he set up within UniCredit which constantly reviews potential deals in the markets and businesses where the bank operates, people with knowledge of the matter said. But uneven regulation across the euro zone, where progress towards a single banking market has stalled, complicates cross-border deals. Calling on Europe to follow his lead, Orcel says he has unlocked UniCredit's potential by giving it a unified strategy across its 13 markets.

For years, banks bemoaned ultra loose monetary policy, but now higher interest rates means banks can start to benefit from the increased gap between what they charge borrowers and what they pay savers. Standard Chartered's third-quarter profit surged 40% as higher interest rates boosted the emerging markets-focused bank's income, giving it ammunition to upgrade its revenue outlook despite a weakening global economy. For Santander, higher loan loss provisions in key markets like Brazil and the United States overshadowed better than expected third-quarter earnings. While benefiting from higher interest rates, banks also face the unwinding of a scheme that buoyed their profits for years.

В Республике Молдова было запущено серологическое исследование по эпиднадзору за COVID-19 и вирусными гепатитами B и C, цель которого — установить уровень серологической распространенности антител COVID-19 и вирусного гепатита среди населения в целом с оценкой уровня коллективного иммунитета против COVID-19 и долю бессимптомных инфекций по полу, возрастным группам и территориям. В исследовании примут участие 6000 человек, произвольно выбранных из списков лиц, зарегистрированных семейным врачом из возрастных категорий: 1-9 лет, 10-19 лет, 20-39 лет, 40-59 лет и 60+ лет. Все люди подпишут информированное соглашение об участии и будет взята венозная кровь, что позволит получить более точные данные. По информации Министерства здравоохранения, информация о распространении инфекций поможет определить лучшие решения и меры общественного здравоохранения по контролю и профилактике COVID-19, HVB и HVC. Методологическую и материальную поддержку исследования оказали Всемирная организация здравоохранения и Институт Роберта Коха, Германия.
